Our story

Named after the original port of coffee.

Mokhaport takes its name from the Yemeni Port Mokha — the historic seaport on the Red Sea that gave the world its first taste of coffee. From the 15th to the 18th century, Mokha was the single most important coffee trading hub on Earth. The very word "mocha" — now diluted into a chocolate flavor on cafe menus everywhere — comes from this port.

We founded Mokhaport to introduce organic Ethiopian and Yemeni coffee flavors back into American cafes — alongside our out-of-this-world smoothies. Yemen and Ethiopia are the two original homes of coffee. Their beans grow at high elevation, on small family farms, often processed by methods unchanged in centuries.

Ninety-five percent of what we serve is made in-house. That includes our fresh-fruit smoothies, our Adani Chai, and our Yemeni and Ethiopian coffee. We work hard to keep options for everyone: vegan, gluten-free, halal, and sugar-free options are always on the menu.
